It’s been a while and I am trying the minimalist life, to my surprise it turned out to work for me. Apparently, I like to lead a simple life, clutter free, where it’s more about experiences and less about possessions.
In October 2017, I decided to spend a full month without buying anything new to myself and to donate at least one things a day. I figure with such goals, I can simplify my life, reduce my budget, and help others. Additionally, I have more possessions than I actually need, I can continue to live happily without buying anything new and there are a lot of things that I am not using yet can be of benefit to a lot of people around me.
As I was thinking about these monthly goals of mine, I remembered that last week I had decided to read one hour a day, five days a week, so I decided to add it to my monthly goals. I usually plan on reading 12 books a year i.e. one book a month, yet this year, I have been very busy with a lot of things that I didn’t read as many books as I wish I did, so I figure with such a goal, I can do some catching up.
Last but not least, I have been exercising on and off and want to move that to a daily exercise so I decided to exercise at least 5 minutes a day. I figure with 5 minutes daily, I would build a habit, 5 minutes don’t bother me, yet after 21 days, I will build the habit. Plus, I know that after the 5 minutes are over, I will be energized and will want to continue exercising for a longer period.
As I was thinking of exercising and it’s benefits, I thought about healthy eating and I decided to add a fifth goal that prevents me from eating sweets this month. So in October 2017, I will not eat sweets. I did not think of eating healthy or abiding by a specific health diet, I just decided to reduce junk one thing at a time, one month at a time.
And finally, I decided to write about my goals so I stick to them since they are public now. At the end of the month, I will be writing how these goals ended up being implemented and what benefits I reaped.
Here’s a recap of my five goals for October 2017:
1. I will not buy anything new for myself
2. I will donate at least one thing a day
3. I will read one hour a day five days a week
4. I will exercise for a minimum of five minutes a day
5. I will not eat any sweets
Now here’s a great way to start the month! Happy October! Happy Autumn!
